By: Kevin Le Spirit Week is a special week for all students at Alonso High School; they get to express their school spirit through what they wear. Each day of the week has a theme, such as Monday being meme day. Many students go all out with their look, though some don’t feel the spirit at all and don’t dress up. Students dress up as a wide variety of things such as famous vines, the elderly, Disney characters, or something straight from the past. Jacob Atkins, a junior, was one of these students who decided to dress up. He dressed as a greaser from the 50’s for blast to the past day. “I dressed up because it let the weirdness of myself be normal for a day,” said Atkins. He followed up with “I felt it was a really great way for the entirety of Alonso to have a good laugh.” Alonso is always full of school spirit, but during Spirit Week, is jumps to a whole new level. Even some teachers got in the fun and they did well on their looks. People are inspired to create their outfits from scratch; others just go buy it, and some do a little bit of both. Nayeli Soto, a senior, is another student who dressed up; she did so because “I love Alonso and I love doing fun and creative things at school.” One of the bigger reasons why Soto is participating in Sprit Week is “I wanted to dress up this year because it is my last year at school.” Every student has their reason for dressing up; Spirit Week is time for students to come together and have a good time.
