Halloween is over and now that Christmas is right around the corner, people are already starting to put up their Christmas decorations. Some people want to start setting up because they’re ready for the holiday season, but others think it’s way too early to start worrying about Christmas. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on when the Christmas season has officially started.
Senior Anelise Herbig is one who believes that the Christmas season starts directly after Thanksgiving. “I think Christmas decorations should be put up the day after Thanksgiving. I celebrate with my family and friends every year at my house and have a party.” Some students and their families don’t start putting up any decorations until December starts, because the Christmas spirit hasn’t arrived yet. Anelise is one of many students who believe that the second Christmas is over, this Christmas spirit is already here.
Sophomore Amelia Lipscomb also agrees that Christmas decorations should wait until after Thanksgiving. “Typically, my family puts up our decorations a few days after Thanksgiving, so around late November. I celebrate by putting up decorations around my house and going to church with my family.” Some students are religious and go to church for Christmas to celebrate, but you don’t need to be religious to celebrate the holiday season.
Junior Tammy Nguyen is very open-minded about when people start celebrating. “I think it’s a personal preference, like if you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, then putting up your Christmas stuff before then is fine. I put my Christmas stuff up in the beginning of November. On Christmas day, my family and I go out into the living room and open presents while listening to Christmas music.” Some people don’t even celebrate Thanksgiving or other holidays for a variety of reasons, like personal or religious preference. Some people like to put their decorations up early because they want to feel the Christmas spirit and may not be waiting for Thanksgiving to pass.
Whether you put up your holiday decorations on November 1st or on Christmas Eve, everyone loves celebrating the holiday season in some way.
