Crimes of the Heart is a show about three sisters: Lenny, Meg, and Babe, from Hazlehurst Mississippi. Babe is coming home from jail after shooting her husband. Meg is coming home from a failed singing career in Hollywood. Lenny is worried about the grandfather that is ill in the Hospital. Their troubles, graves and yet, somehow, hilarious, are highlighted by their ridiculous cousin Chick, awkward lawyer Barnette Lloyd, and Meg’s old flame Doc Porter.
Mia Costa, an actress in the play who went as far as dying her hair for the play, states, “Being a part of crimes of the heart was a life changing experience where I’ve become a family with my cast mates!” The play was truly powerful. Not every play can turn a group of student actors into a family.
Makala Hunter, an Alonso student who was in the audience, says “I thought it was pretty good considering it was a high school play.” The true power of Crimes of the Heart has shown its true colors bringing even the modern teenager to be entertained by its humor and story.
