By Erika Higgins In Ms. Fun’s class, her students started the fairy tale unit. The first fairy tale they learned about was The Three Little Pigs but they did a lot more than just read the story and discuss it. To demonstrate the story, the students had to get into groups and use many materials, including tooth picks, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, tin foil, marshmallows, Twizzlers, and Starbursts, to build a small house, like the pigs did in the story. To simulate the Big Bad Wolf, the teacher used a fan to try to knock down the house. The house had to stand for five seconds on each setting of the fan. Ezdra “Sam” Oliver, a student of Ms. Fun’s, really likes the project. “It was pretty fun. Not too many teachers still do fun projects like this. It took me back to the earlier days.” Another student of Ms. Fun, Ethan Deming, also likes the project. “It was fun in Fun’s class.” His group happened to succeed at the task. “We used pipe cleaners, marshmallows, and tin foil. It went great. Ours stood up the whole time.”
Sebastian Roessel and Zack Lecorchick start to build their models. Sebastian used gum drops and popsicle sticks as their base, while Zack continued to contemplate his strategy to beat the other teams.
Jazmine Salgado, Jessica Ragan, and Wallery Buchmann all start to build their model. They all enjoyed the project and had fun working with each other.
